Artsakh president offers condolences to Montserrat Caballé’s family
Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan has extended condolences to the family of Montserrat Caballé on the demise of renowned opera singer, his office said.
“We have learnt with deep sorrow about the death of world-famous soprano, great friend of the Armenian people Montserrat Caballé.
She belonged to those exceptional people who contributed to the spread of goodness and humanity in the world by their lives, activities, principles and ideas, shed light and warmth around them.
The visit of the distinguished soprano to Artsakh and the “Armenia and Artsakh: The Island of Christianity” Album became a significant event in our country's life, making a substantial contribution to introducing Artsakh to the world.
On behalf of the Artsakh people, authorities and myself personally I extend my condolences and support to all the relatives and friends of the deceased, the multimillion worshippers and admirers of her art wishing them endurance and tenacity.
Montserrat Caballé’s name will always remain bright in our memory,” he said in a message of condolences.
Caballé died on 6 October aged 85. She had been suffering from health complaints for some time and was admitted to hospital in Barcelona last month. Her career spanned 50 years, BBC reported.
She had stints with the Basel Opera and Bremen Opera before her international breakthrough in 1965 in Lucrezia Borgia at Carnegie Hall in New York. She went on to perform with the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera and Vienna State Opera, appearing opposite the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo.
In 2013, Montserrat Caballé visited Armenia and Artsakh. In the same year the renowned Spanish soprano unveiled her album dedicated to the two states titled “Armenia and Artsakh – An Isle of Christianity”.
