Yerevan hosts 35th Francophonie Ministerial Conference
The 35th Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) kicked off on Monday morning at Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital.
Foreign ministers of member states of the organization are taking part in the conference organized as part of the Francophonie weeklong events in Armenia.
In his opening remarks, Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan reflected on the demise of Charles Aznavour, ‘a great Armenian, a great Frenchman, a great citizen of the world’, asking the participants to observe a moment of silence in memory of the legendary singer.
He stressed Aznavour spent his whole life committed to the values of cultural diversity, tolerance and humanism, ‘which are the foundation of Francophone values’.
He also expressed gratitude to former Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian for his efforts towards securing Armenia’s presidency over the OIF Ministerial Conference, as well as the country’s hosting of the Francophonie summit.
Armenia is hosting the XVII Francophonie Summit on 11-12 October, while the events organized as part of the summit started in the capital on Sunday, 7 October.
