RPA has no and has never had any intention to nominate a candidate for the post of PM – statement
The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) does not oppose snap parliamentary elections in Armenia yet considers those elections should take please within a reasonable time period, the party said in a released statement. The former ruling party reiterated ‘its adopted policy of not obstructing the cabinet work.”
“In our understating, the reasonable time period for holding snap parliamentary elections are the months of May-June that would allow to […] to finalize amendments to the Electoral Code with discussions with parliamentary and extra-parliamentary forces, non-governmental organizations, international structures operating in Armenia, the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR monitoring mission,” reads the statement in part.
“Irrespective of all these and without accepting the justifications of the RA government to hold parliamentary elections in December, the Republic Party of Armenia states it has no and has never had any intention to nominate a candidate for the post of the Prime Minister. Our approach on conducting elections in Spring is based on a single goal - to ensure the parliament is formed through democratic principles,” the statement concluded.
To note, according to the Constitution of Armenia, the National Assembly can be dissolved only if parliamentarians fail to elect another PM in case of resignation.
