Wives of the leaders attending the 17th Francophonie summit visited Megerian Carpet company
The wives of the heads of delegations, attending the 17th Francophonie summit in Yerevan, visited today the Megerian Carpet company and got familiarized with the history of Armenian carpet making, toured the premises and got familiarized with the samples of displayed rugs.
To note, the company produces handmade rugs in various designs. In recent years it has also been engaged in the restoration and renovation of antique handmade carpets and preservation of Armenian cultural values across the world, their restoration and reproduction.
Panorama.am reports, among the guests who showed interest to carpet making were the spouses of the presidents and prime ministers of Lebanon, Chad, Belgium, Switzerland, Vanuatu, Comoros. The wife of Armenian PM Anna Hakobyan accompanied the guests.
During the visit a carpet cutting ceremony was demonstrated that traditionally symbolizes the birth of a rug when the first knot is tied, and the last piece of yarn is cut. The carpet was called Jraberd in the name of one of Artsakh settlements.
The guests were also impressed with baking of Armenian lavash and and its taste.
The head of the company Raffi Mergerian presented small rugs and scarfs with image of Ararat mount to the wives of high-level officials.
Following the Mergerian Carpet the guests headed for Matenadaran - a repository of ancient manuscripts, research institute and museum in Yerevan.
