Rwanda's Louise Mushikiwabo elected new OIF Secretary-General
Rwanda's Foreign Minister has been unanimously elected the Secretary General of La Francophonie (OIF). The election took place on Friday during the 17th Francophonie summit underway in Yerevan.
Mushikiwabo’s candidacy was earlier backed by French President Emmanuel Macron and the African Union. The new secretary-general will serve four years renewable and will work from the organization headquarters in Paris.
Mushikiwabo takes over from Michaëlle Jean who has held the position for the last four years.
