Hayk Marutyan sworn in as new mayor of Yerevan
Hayk Marutyan was sworn in as new mayor of Yerevan this morning. The swearing-in ceremony of new mayor took place at Mayor’s Office.
“I am excited and feel deep sense of responsibility. I am standing in front of you as the people decided so. The people achieved their right to make this decision as a result of the Velvet revolution,” the newly-elected mayor stated in his remarks.
To remind, Marutyan, a famous comic actor, led the My Step bloc to win a landslide victory in the 23 September snap elections to the City Council. The bloc garnered 81,05% of the votes to take 57 seats in the council. Two other forces represented in the City Council are Prosperous Armenia Party (5 seats) and Luys (Light) bloc (3 seats).
“To restore and clean Yerevan, make it more accessible, build, develop and what is the most important - do all these based on the principle of justice. I want to assure to all my beloved residents, as otherwise cannot be from a person who loves his city and the country,” Marutyan said.
