Armenian PM announces his resignation on state TV
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has tendered resignation in preparation for snap parliamentary elections in December.
The PM announced his resignation in an address livestreamed on the Public TV Company of Armenia.
“As I said before, I am resigning today as Prime Minister of Armenia,” he said.
Earlier in an interview with France 24, Pashinyan had said: “Early elections should be held around December 9 or 10, give or take a day. It will be in that timeframe so I will have to tender my resignation by October 16.”
Under the Armenian Constitution, the parliament can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her replacement within two weeks.
