Pashinyan congratulates new ministers, says today is ‘important day’ for Armenia
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated newly appointed ministers of agriculture and economic development and investments on taking office at today’s Cabinet meeting.
President Armen Sarkissian has already signed decrees to appoint Tigran Khachatryan Minister of Economic Development and Investments and Gegham Gevorgyan – Minister of Agriculture.
“I congratulate Mr. Khachatryan and Mr. Gevorgyan on their de jure and final appointment as ministers,” the PM said.
Pashinyan next stressed today is an ‘important day’ for Armenia, since the country is entering a ‘new historic phase’.
“With the outcomes of this phase we must bring the non-violent, velvet revolution that took place in Armenia in spring to an end. But I will make a more specific statement in this regard today in the evening,” he said.
Pashinyan is expected to tender resignation today in preparation for the snap parliamentary elections.
Under the Armenian Constitution, the parliament can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her replacement within two weeks.
