Acting FM: Armenia has done its best for domestic political issues not to affect CSTO
Discussions on recalling Secretary General of Russia-based Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Yuri Khachaturov continue, acting Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told reporters on Thursday.
“Discussions and consultations continue in a sense that we need to consider the issue in a broader context, since similar situations may emerge in the future for various reasons, and the CSTO charters should be ready for this kind of situations,” he said.
Mnatsakanyan stressed Khachaturov’s case is a matter of internal affairs, and Armenia has done everything possible for its domestic political issues not to have any impact on the organization.
“CSTO’s reputation is as much important for Armenia as for any other member state of the organization,” he added.
The acting foreign policy chief also said he does not see any problem with the decision to move the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly session from Yerevan to Moscow, calling for a pragmatic approach on the matter.
Khachaturov is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 2008 post-election crackdown in Yerevan.
