Francophonie summit guests impressed by Armenian wine, brandy, Pashinyan says
High-level guests at the 17th Summit of La Francophonie in Yerevan were greatly impressed by Armenian wine and brandy, acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at today’s Cabinet meeting.
“It was a great and significant news for me since present were heads of countries that are considered global winemaking leaders. I was particularly pleased that the French president and his spouse found it noteworthy to express their opinion on the Armenian wine and cognac, or brandy, as they put it,” he said.
“In general, our wines and cognac impressed the guests, which means we have succeeded in achieving a certain international standard of wine and cognac production,” he said.
Pashinyan stressed the need to encourage and provide state support to local winemakers and cognac producers to enter new markets through increasing their production volumes.
“Winemaking is obviously a promising branch. We consider the cognac production already reinforced sector but we see serious problems here as well regarding the distribution and consumption of fake products in the market, especially in the territory of Eurasian Economic Union,” he said, calling for serious supervision in this regard.
