Trump advisor: Armenian Genocide is 'historical fact'
Rudy Giuliani, a former mayor of New York City who currently serves as a legal advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, visited today Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan.
The American official was accompanied by Chairman of the Union of Russian Armenians Ara Abrahamian, Panorama.am reports.
On his way to the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, Giuliani commented on a question by RFE/RL's Armenian Service whether the Trump administration should recognize the Armenian genocide.
“I certainly would recognize it. I think it is a historical fact, but I am not here in my capacity as a private lawyer for President Trump, I am here as a private citizen,” he said, adding it is for the Trump administration to draw conclusions on the issue.
Asked to comment on the Armenian-U.S. relations, the advisor stressed it is up to the two governments, repeating himself he is in Armenia as a private citizen just to learn some facts.
He added that he knows the American Armenian community well, but he is in Armenia for the first time.
