Yelk faction to nominate Pashinyan as PM for first round of election
Yelk faction of the Armenian parliament has made a decision to nominate Nikol Pashinyan’s candidacy for the first round of election of prime minister, Gevorg Gorgisyan, the secretary of the faction, told reporters on Tuesday.
“After the consultations with lawyers we decided to better nominate a candidate for the voting to take place,” he said.
The MP said currently the necessary documents are being prepared for the nomination.
The National Assembly will hold a special session on Wednesday for the first rounds of election of PM.
Pashinyan resigned as PM on October 16 to pave way for dissolution of the parliament and conduct of snap elections.
Under the Armenian law, the National Assembly can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her replacement within two weeks.
