Pashinyan says corruption charges brought against one MP
A criminal case has been opened against an Armenian lawmaker over corruption allegations, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today, addressing the parliament.
“This is a 100 percent proven case. We are waiting for an official response to the document at hand. As soon as we get it, we will arrest that MP. It is a corruption case,” Pashinyan detailed.
He also urged to be ‘psychologically ready’ for the full disclosure of the March 1 case.
“The March 1 case shall be completely revealed. I just call on everyone to be psychologically ready for the entire volume of discoveries, since it isn’t going to be easy to know what, I am sure, you will know soon,” he said.
The National Assembly is debating the issue of electing a new prime minister at today’s regular session. Pashinyan is the only candidate formally nominated for the post by Yelk faction to fully comply with the constitutional procedure.
He stepped down as PM on 16 October to pave way for dissolution of the parliament and conduct of early elections.
Under the Armenian law, the National Assembly can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her replacement within two weeks.
