Ex-PM Karapetyan could get top post at Russian state-run oil company
Former Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan could join the Board of Directors of Zarubezhneft, a Russian state-owned oil company, Kommersant Russian newspaper reports.
The article says his appointment can be both a political gesture and a consequence of Karapetyan’s long career in Russian state-run companies between 2000 and 2010.
Previously, Russia invited different political figures from abroad to join its companies as well, with former German Chancellor Schröder Zarubezhneft also included in the board of directors of the company.
According to a Kommersant source familiar with the matter, Karapetyan could become an independent director, a position held by financier Hrayr Simonyan, an advisor to Inter RAO Chief Executive Boris Kovalchuk.
A Russian government official speaking to Kommersant nether confirmed nor denied the report.
Karapetyan served as Armenia’s prime minister from 2016 to 2018. He was the mayor of Yerevan in 2010-2011.
