Armenian mental health center chief steps down
Director of the Armenian Health Ministry-affiliated National Center for Mental Health Narek Vanesyan has unveiled his decision to submit resignation, he said on Facebook.
Denying any wrongdoing at his institution, he says he cannot continue to hold the office following the recent statement of the Human Rights Defender alleging a patient is forcibly kept at the center.
Vanesyan has also been involved in another incident at the Yerevan State Medical University. He reportedly behaved improperly and incited conflict during an event at the university days ago, raising discontent among the attendees. A group of doctor-professors have addressed an open letter to acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to deal with the issue.
