Armenian villagers facing job loss amid transport issue
The residents of Byurakan community in Armenia’s Aragatsotn region have voiced their concerns over poor public transport services in the village after the scheduled trip en route from Yerevan to Byurakan on 1 November, at 7:55pm, was cancelled.
The Yerevan-Byurakan route operated by Armen Hovsepyan free entrepreneur has not provided proper transportation in the period from November to April in recent years, which has been causing inconveniences for the local residents working and studying in the capital.
Some have to quit their jobs, while others seek other options to reach the village, including taking a taxi or finding a relative who would pick them up.
“There is no other means of transportation heading to or passing through Byurakan. Now, over a dozen people don’t know what to do in two days,” Hripsime Grigoryan, a local resident, told Panorama.am.
Working in Yerevan, she finishes her job at around 7:30pm and is now facing job loss since she cannot afford taking a taxi from Yerevan to Byurakan at the end of every working day.
“The company says they will not work at that time amid the alleged lack of passengers. But about two dozen people are dissatisfied with this decision at the moment, which means these people have an problem to reach Byurakan,” she said, proposing the authorities to operate at least mini bus on the route in the evening hours.
According to Grigoryan, the transport ministry has pledged to deal with the issue. “But, in fact, no transport will function at that time in two days,” she said, unveiling the Byurakan residents’ plan to submit a written complaint to the Aragatsotn governor’s office and the ministry.
The Ministry of Transport, Communication and Information Technologies told Panorama.am it will comment on the issue in a short period.
