Election campaign to kick off in Armenia on Nov. 26
The campaign for snap parliamentary elections in Armenia will launch on 26 November, according to a decision adopted by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan at Friday’s special session.
The campaign will run through 7 December, he said, noting the parties and alliances running for the early elections are set to submit the necessary documents to the CEC by 14 November, 6pm.
President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree on Thursday to approve Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s proposal for conducting snap parliamentary elections on December 9.
The National Assembly dissolved on Thursday afternoon after failing to elect a PM for the second time in two weeks in a pre-arranged scenario.
Under the Armenian law, the parliament can be dissolved only if the prime minister resigns and lawmakers twice fail to elect his or her successor within two weeks.
