Armenia’s acting justice minister calls for joining efforts to hold ‘political elections’ in December
The upcoming snap parliamentary elections in Armenia may or may not be political, Acting Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan told reporters in the National Assembly on Saturday, stressing it depends on the political engagement and exercise of the electoral right to be ensured by the state.
“But we all want to see a political election. Naturally, the government and police will do their best to exclude illegal actions, while the mass media, for its part, will ensure transparent elections as much as possible based on free political will,” he said.
He dismissed the claims that holding snap polls by the rating system of election may distort the Velvet Revolution that took place in Armenia this spring.
“I see no issues here. We need to join all our efforts to organize political elections to clear way for a legitimate National Assembly,” he told reporters.
The early parliamentary elections are slated for 9 December in Armenia, while the election campaign will be held from 26 November through 7 December.
