Armenian parliament to hold first session on 24 Dec. after snap polls
The first session of the new parliament to be formed after the early elections in Armenia will take place on 24 December, Deputy Chief of the National Assembly Staff Arsen Babayan said on Facebook.
He explained that under the Armenian law, in the event of snap polls the parliament is to convene its first session on the second Monday following its formation.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) is set to sum up the final outcomes of the December 9 early parliamentary elections and declare it as formed on the seventh day after the voting, i. e. on December 16, thus the second Monday when the parliament is set to hold its first session falls on 24 December, he said.
The first National Assembly session can be postponed only when the CEC delays the adoption of a decision on the election results due to a number of reasons prescribed by law, including when the political forces demand recount in the election vote.
The CEC decided on November 2 that the election campaign will be held from 26 November through 7 December, after the parliament was dissolved following two failed attempts to elect a new prime minister in a pre-arranged scenario to trigger early elections and President Armen Sarkisian signed a decree late on November 1 scheduling the elections for December 9.
