Armenia’s National Security Service exposes drug smuggling group from Iran
The National Security Service (NSS) has exposed and neutralized a large crime group engaged in drug smuggling and sales in Armenia as part of its large-scale anti-drug operations, the service told Panorama.am.
The security agents revealed that three Iranian citizens smuggled large quantities of opium into Armenia through the Meghri customs checkpoint of the Armenian-Iranian border to hide the drugs in an apartment rented in Yerevan.
The other two accomplices, who were under the control of NSS officers, attempted to sell 1,454 grams of opium in Yerevan on November 2, but were caught during the sales deal.
The two Iranian citizens have been arrested as part of the criminal case launched into the incident, while law enforcers are taking measures to find other individuals associated with the crime group. A probe is underway.
