Expert names 3 parties to win seats in Armenia’s parliament in December elections
Political technologist Karen Kocharyan is strongly convinced that at least three political forces will gain parliamentary seats during the upcoming snap elections slated for December 9.
According to Kocharyan, neither the old Electoral Code nor the short election campaign will hinder the Civil Contract Party (led by Acting PM Nikol Pashinyan), Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) and Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) to make it to the National Assembly.
He stressed the Republicans have been in power for 20 years, having created a string social base for them during that period. “Though not high in number, the votes will be enough to overcome the threshold. The RPA will most probably be an opposition in the parliament,” he told reporters.
“As for the PAP, it will hardly ally with another force and will also act as an opposition,” Kocharyan added.
The political technologist says he was sure the Luys bloc would manage to easily win seats in the parliament as well until the forces comprising the bloc decided to run in the early elections separately. “Bright Armenia and Republic parties have failed to reach an agreement, which will cause major issues for both of them,” he said.
He predicted low chances for the newly formed parties to achieve serious success in the snap polls, meantime not ruling out the fact they may hold successful election campaign to have themselves remembered during the next elections.
Kocharyan believes the upcoming elections will ‘clear’ Armenia’s political field to pave way for a legitimate and political National Assembly.
