Historic Armenian school building in Istanbul may turn into hotel
A historic Armenian school, Khorenian Primary School in Istanbul, may be transformed into a hotel after being restored, Ermenihaber reports.
The building of the school that opened in 1821 close to the Armenian Surp Hreshdagabed Church has been in a poor condition for a quarter of century. The stone walls of the building are cracked, with a huge pile of waste dumped inside. The school serves as home to homeless people.
There is clear-cut project on restoring the building pending a reply for four years. If the project is confirmed, the historic Armenian school will be rebuilt into a hotel.
Aram Kuran, the second president of the Khorenian School and Cemetery Foundation of the Armenian Surp Hreshdagabed Church, says the building has been handed to a private company for rental for 18 years to rebuild it into a hotel, adding if the project is implemented, it will benefit both the Turkish economy and the Armenian foundation.
