Acting deputy FM: Iran sanctions a ‘sensitive topic’ for Armenia
The international sanctions against Iran is a very sensitive topic for Armenia and continuing traditional and friendly relations with its neighbor is of key importance for the country, Acting Deputy Foreign Minister Karen Nazarian said at the joint session of the parliament’s standing committees on European integration and budgetary affairs on Tuesday.
Commenting on a lawmaker’s question regarding US National Security Adviser John Bolton’s statement on the Iran sanctions and the expected reactions from the other regional states, the official voiced concerns that an improper reaction to the issue may lead to Armenia’s isolation.
“The international sanctions unleashed on Iran is quite a sensitive topic for Armenia. We have always provided full support to the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed between Iran and the respective partner states,” he stressed. “It is very important for us to continue the traditional, mutually beneficial and friendly relations with our neighbor.”
He stressed the Armenian foreign ministry’s key mission is to hold open and free discussions with the country’s partner states, highlighting Armenia-Iran relations on one hand and traditional relations with other partner countries on the other hand.
Commenting on Bolton’s recent regional trip, Nazarian says it was yet another opportunity to raise issues of regional development at the highest level and voice Armenia’s approaches towards the challenges facing the country.
