Azerbaijani banker's wife detained in London
Zamira Hajiyeva, the wife of the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan Jahangir Hajiyev was arrested in London. She faces two charges of embezzlement, BBC reported.
She is currently in an isolation cell and her extradition to Azerbaijan is under consideration.
The court has announced that Hajieva may be released on bail of 500 million pounds. In that case, she must live in her house in London and register every day with the police.
Under the new anti-corruption law, Britain has discovered the woman has spent £16m at Harrods.
It is reported that Hajiyeva has spent about 4,000 pounds daily. The court found that Mrs. Boucheron spent 150,000 pounds to buy jewelry from a luxury brand store and she gave away 1800 pounds to buy wine the next day. Another day, she spent 100,000 pounds at a Cartier jewelry store.
The Unexplained Wealth Order is a new law adopted in the UK aimed at tackling iternational corruption.
