Armenian culture minister comments on report on rejecting funds for Artsakh charity concert
Armenia’s Acting Minister of Culture Lilit Makunts has issued comments on an article by Zhoghovurd daily stating the ministry has rejected financial assistance to famous Armenian singer Tovmas Poghosyan to hold a charity concert in Artsakh.
In a statement released on Friday, the official says the singer applied for financial on Thursday, 13 September, only 4 days before the scheduled concert in Artsakh.
“Regardless of a positive decision adopted on the financial support, it was technically impossible to provide assistance in that short period of time, in fact within two working days, since there is a procedure prescribed by law for allocations,” reads the statement.
The caretaker minister further explains that after the event it was also impossible to make a transfer, since it would be considered a compensation rather than assistance, which would make a financial offence for the ministry, with ‘all its consequences.’
“Tovmas Poghosyan has been notified about it in written form,” she said, at the same time urging organizers to apply for financial assistance at least 2 weeks before a planned event.
“I also deny the allegations that it is ‘forbidden’ to enter the ministry and meet the minister. There is no such a thing or can ever be,” concludes the statement.
