The Kurds of Kars: We live under the roofs of Armenians until now
The village of Kilititash in the historic Armenian province of Kars, is located only 50 meters far from the present-day Armenian-Turkish border.
The Armenian homes abandoned after the Armenian Genocide were inhabited by the Kurds from neighboring settlements, and they have became the new owners of both Armenian homes and their churches.
Ermenihaber writes that this district of Diqor in Kars captures one’s attention with its beautiful nature.
The historic Armenian village and today's Armenia are separated from each other by Arpachay River. The village is built on the banks of Arpachay, about 300 meters deep in the canyon. There are only 40 farms there.
The current residents say that no new houses have been built in Kilittash over the past hundred years. Everyone lives in homes left by the Armenians. "We still live under the roofs of Armenians," the Kurds confess.
