Meschyan: Police and district councils to be blamed for illegal constructions
"We have warned many times, do not do it, they did not listen to anyone, they went on with that. Everything has merit. Do not think that I experience the greatest happiness when the buildings are being destroyed, it's a bad thing, but do not make us do it," said Yerevan's Chief Architect Artur Meschyan referring to the dismantlemen of the building yesterday in 1/3 Gyurjyan Street in Yerevan's Nor Nork administrative district.
"When an announcement is made regarding illegal constructions, it’s not a show; every single statement assumes responsibility," he said.
According to Meschyan, he carries responsibility for what has been happening since his appointment to that post, not for the happenings before that.
"The citizen who is going to build an illegal construction should refrain because these buildings are not going to be legalized,” he said.
He noted that for 80% it’s the fault of those responsible for banning illegal constructions. "Those people who were to responsible for not allowing illegal constructions were encouraging it. Both the police and the district councils are to be blamed for the problems the residents of Yerevan are facing today."
