Arayik Harutyunyan: Construction of Sarsang River canal to be launched shortly
Advisor and Special Representative to the President of the Republic of Artsakh, Arayik Harutyunyan, announces the good results of the negotiations reached during his recent visit to the European countries.
According to him, during the visit and the intensive discussions following the visit, we have successfully completed negotiations on the implementation of over $100 million investment project.
"As a result, the construction of the Sarsang canal will soon be launched with foreign investments, the construction works will take several years and will allow the water reservoir to be pumped through the cascade to the surrounding areas of Martakert, building 3 new reservoirs and irrigating more than 10,000 hectares of land. This is a program we have been waiting for for a long time which, in my opinion, will become one of the largest economic projects in Artsakh as well as the guarantor of the agricultural developmentin the region," Arayik Harutyunyan wrote.
According to the former minister, the irrigation system needs big investments in Artsakh.
"We have also agreed with investors to build new HPPs on the cascade providing a watercourse, which will increase the production of electricity by promoting its export. By the way, according to the data of the 9 months of this year, our country produced more than 290 million kWh of electricity. The production increased by 20.5% compared to the same period of last year. And in the coming years we are planning to increase the volume of electricity produced in the republic to 1 billion kilowatt.
Shareholders of the investing company who do not have Armenian origin will also have an important role in the development of horticulture. The representatives of the companies are in Artsakh now are discussing issues regarding the launch of the project and some technical issues.
Let me also note that this is not all, as we are completing discussions over a series of charitable programs with our benefactors from the Diaspora in the upcoming days, about which I will announce later. Wait for good news, "said Harutyunyan.
