Protesters demand resignation of acting education chiefs outside government
A group of students gathered in front of the Armenian government building on Thursday demanding the resignation of acting Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan and Acting Deputy Minister Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
They citied the failure of the officials to adopt a clear-cut approach to the scientific issues as the reason behind their discontent.
One of the protesters representing the Institute of Fine Organic Chemistry of the Scientific and Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, told reporters they have clearly presented their demands in a letter.
The protest campaign comes after the Department of State Property Management came up with a draft decision proposing to take back two laboratory buildings and a part of the workshop area from the Scientific and Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry to hand them to two organizations for rental.
The decision is to be submitted to the government for approval.
“We were voicing our issues prior to this as well. The new government now follows the practice of the previous one,” the student said.
The campaign also attracted representatives of other educational institutions, who raised other issues in the sector.
