Armenia’s Aronian finishes 3rd in Tata Steel chess tour
Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has taken the third place at Tata Steel India chess tournament, which came to an end in Kolkata on Wednesday.
A total of 10 chess players, including Levon Aronian, Wesley So, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, former World Champion Viswanathan Anand, Hikaru Nakamura, Sergey Karjakin and four Indian players – Harikrishna, Vidit, Sarin and Ganguly – were competing in the rapid tournament.
American GM Nakamura won the rapid tournament with 6 points, followed by Harikrishna and Aronian, the Chess Federation of Armenia told Panorama.am.
The winner of the blitz tournament was India’s Anand, who tied for first with Hikaru Nakamura with 12.5 and then defeated the American grandmaster in the playoff. Aronian again came third with half a point behind the leaders.
