Chairman of the parliamentary investigation committee says gas tariff reduction possible
Mikayel Melkumyan, chairperson of the parliamentary investigation committee on gas and electricity, found it difficult today to answer the question regarding a possible drop in the gas tariff.
"Now let me refrain from saying anything, the negotiation process is underway. I will let you know when there is a decision reached. If there is no change in the border, then we expect that Gazprom Armenia's investment program will be discussed and some adjustments will be made, and we will be able to make a conclusion. It is a fact that the reduction of the gas price should be discussed, "he said.
"Yes, I assure that we will have opportunities to reduce the tariff," he said.
Melik Melkumyan stressed that 17 billion drams will be needed to cut the gas tariff by 5 drams, which means we need about 2.5 billion drams to reduce the tariff by 1 dram.
To the question who should be responsible for the losses, Michael Melkumyan mentioned that the problem was of a systemic nature, and both the commission and the government and the parliament are accountable.
