Armenia's economy should serve the country’s strategic needs: Nikol Pashinyan
"After the revolution, when we were asked about our to-dos in the economic field, we first of all emphasized the importance of constitutionalism in the country. We said that in the economic field everyone is equal before the law, we attached importance to the formation of legality and an environment of justice, " RA Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the conference on modern issues of Armenian economy and strategic directions.
"The next problem we are facing is the extremely inefficient state management system. We will inevitably touch upon this topic next year, "he said.
Nikol Pashinyan also highlighted the importance of providing opportunities. According to him, today we have an opportunity to assign the role of solving problems not only to the government, but also to different layers the society.
"Everyone wants the government to enter into micro-management system, the Prime Minister personally needs to solve the issue of ‘a switch’ in a neighbourhood building. This will lead us to a disaster, " he said.
The acting Prime Minister stressed that after the revolution, changes in people's perceptions and behavior have been observed.
"Change of a taxpayer’s, an employee’s, a businessman's behavior is the most crucial issue that we have to solve today. For a long time, enterpreneurship has been treated badly because the businessmen are constantly involved in political processes. This time we have taken care for the number of businessmen-candidates in the upcoming elections to be unprecedentedly low, but I do not want this process to to be seen as a bad treatment towards the businessmen, on the contrary. A businessman should mean much more than a deputy, " said the head of government.
Nikol Pashinyan said that the Armenian economy should serve the country’s strategic needs, and there is really a potential for building such economy.
"Over the past two decades, they have not solved any security issues, they have solved the issue of justifying corruption. We should not justify the lack of advancement of our economy through the security environment, " he said.
In his speech, Nikol Pashinyan also touched upon the issue of repatriation, noting that it did not mean people's physical relocation but also relocation of capital and new culture.
Talking about education, Pashinyan said that one of the prerequisites for the development of the education sector was the internationalization of universities, the policy of attracting foreign students to Armenian universities. The Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia acknowledged that when he was a deputy of the National Assembly he seemed quite well aware of the problems in Armenia, but after becoming a PM he was convinced that his perceptions were romantic.
Pashinyan stressed that our greatest values are the human and intellectual capitals. "Our goal is to ensure the freedom, happiness and prosperity of our citizens," the Prime Minister said.
