Yerevan concert to celebrate renowned opera singer Barseg Tumanyan’s 60th birthday
A concert dedicated to the 60th birthday anniversary of world-famous Armenian opera singer Barseg Tumanyan will be held at Yerevan’s Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall on 3 December.
The singer will perform with the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia during the jubilee concert, the Ministry of Culture told Panorama.am.
The concert program features popular pieces by Andrew Lloyd Webber, George Gershwin and other famous composers.
The conductors of the concert are Eduard Topchjan and Melik Mavisakalyan.
World-renowned Armenian bass Barseg Tumanyan was born in 1958 in Yerevan. Tumanyan graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatory of Music under the famous singer and Professor baritone A. Karapetyan. In 1982-83 he studied at La scala-Milan.After in 1985 the singer moved on to study at the Moscow State Conservatory of Music with famous Russian bass Yevgeny Nesterenko.
Barseg began singing at the State Opera of Yerevan in 1980. His participation in a gala concert for the victims of the devastating Spitak earthquake in January 1989, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London is what made Barseg become highly sought after by opera theatres around the world.
Barseg Tumanyan brought his operatic work to appearances on the concert platform. His debut London recital at the Wigmore Hall in 1990 received the highest of press acclaim.
Tumanyan’s Paris debut was in the role of Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust in the Nicolas Joel production, and his German debut was in the title role of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov in Johannes Schaaf’s new production at the Munich State Opera. He has sung the role of Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen in Hamburg, Vienna, the Bastille Opera in Paris and Covent Garden in London. He made his debut in Bonn in an opera gala in March 1992.
