Yerevan appellate court rejects motion of Kocharyan’s lawyers
The Yerevan Court of Appeals has turned down the motion filed by the defense team of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan to replace the judge examining the appeal on changing the measure of restraint imposed on their client.
Speaking to reporters, Kocharyan’s attorney Hayk Alumyan qualified the court decision as ‘illegal’. He didn’t present other details, claiming the defense team has not fully studied the decision yet.
He said tomorrow the court will continue the hearings on the motion requesting self-withdrawal of the presiding judge citing his ‘unlawful’ selection for the case.
“It is hard to expect a legitimate decision from a judge who realizes that he is not competent to examine the issue, but continues to examine it,” Alumyan said earlier on Wednesday.
