EU Ambassador: We will continue human rights protection programs
"Human rights should be safeguarded on the basis of a well-reformed legislation," said the EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Świtalski Wednesday during an international conference on Ombudsman’s 10-year activity in Torture Prevention.
"Of course, we will also continue the human rights protection programs running on allocated budget. The Armenian government has given its consent to the tasks prescribed by the relevant programs, such as installing cameras in places where people are being interrogated and to further deepen the relevant activities aimed at improving the human rights," he said.
The Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan noted that human rights in Armenia are always in the center of attention and there is a very effective cooperation with relevant circles, especially in the context of the protection of citizens' rights in border checkpoints.
The RA second attorney of the RA Human Rights Defender, presently representing Armenia at the ECHR, Armen Harutyunyan, noted that one-fifth of Armenia's lawsuits to the ECHR are related to torture and human rights violations.
