Political technologist says the election campaign mediocre instead of the expected struggle of thoughts
Today is the fourth day of the pre-election campaign, and each of the political forces tries to utilize the very limited period of time as effectively as possible.
Panorama.am correspondent spoke to Armen Badalyan, a political technologist, about the struggle between the parties and alliances participating in snap elections.
"If we are to characterize it, we can say that this is a mediocre campaign, and with some exceptions, it does not differ in its essence from the previous campaigns. This is illogical because back in the past the ratio between the forces in the National Assembly was not determined by the campaign but rather the electoral bribe and the administrative levers. Formerly, the parliament was formed by election bribes.
There is no election bribe now, and naturally there should be a struggle of thoughts and ideas, but the political forces are campaigning as if they are in pre-revolutionary Armenia," said Armen Badalyan.
Touching upon the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's aggressive rhetoric during the campaign, the political technologist emphasized that if there was a pre-election campaign with a rich content during the campaign, nobody would notice that aggression, as there would be more interesting things to see.
"At the moment," My Step" is in the most favourable position, because its leader has a high rating, at least for that political force to appear in the parliament. But take away its leader, and this political force will not appear in parliament. There are three other parties, the PAP, the LAP and the Sasna Tsrer, which can appear in the parliament in case of the maximum use of their opportunities. Among the three in particular LAP has a great potential. As far as the Republican Party of Armenia is concerned, the party does its best, there is not more it can possibly do," the expert said, noting that PAP does not use its full potential.
