Magnus Carlsen wins World Chess Championship
Norway's Magnus Carlsen, 27, has won the World Chess Championship Wednesday in London, beating US player Fabiano Caruana.
Carlsen, who is the reigning champion since 2013, beat Caruana in the first three games in the quickfire tie-breakers. The victory came after 12 classic chess games between the pair ended in a draw.
Carlsen will now hold the champion’s title for another two years.
The prize fund of the tournament is 1 million euros. Carlsen will receive 550 thousand euros, Caruana - 450 thousand.
For the first time, the Norwegian chess player won champion’s title in 2014, by beating Vishwanathan Anand, the second time in 2016, by achieving victory against Sergey Karyakin.
