Cause of Yerevan Zoo crocodile’s death revealed
According to the preliminary results of the necropsy, the Nile crocodile of Yerevan Zoo has died of a chronic decease the animal had been suffering from for ten years or more, the chief vet of the zoo, Harutyun Hovhannisyan told reporters on Friday.
He didn’t specify what illness the talk was about, promising to disclose it to the public after receiving the results of the laboratory tests.
According to Hovhannisyan, the autopsy has been performed by experts from the laboratory of the Armenian National Agrarian University and the Veterinary Inspectorate.
“There has been no document on the crocodile’s health condition or its exact age, i.e. the animal could have had many illnesses from the very beginning,” he said.
The vet added that all crocodile species have an average lifespan of 40 years, with Nile being a middle-aged animal.
Earlier on 26 November, Karen Martirosyan, who had been taking care of the crocodile for over 20 years, told Panorama.am that the animal died as a result of an illiterate approach.
