Davit Tonoyan: Armenian side intensively working to return Karen Ghazaryan to Armenia
Armenian acting Defense Minister, the Chairman of the Committee on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons of the Republic of Armenia, Davit Tonoyan received Thursdaythe parents of the RA citizen Karen Ghazaryan, who crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in June 2018, the Ministry of Defense reported.
In the course of the meeting, Ghazaryan's parents expressed concern over the possible exacerbation of their son's health condition due to his imprisonment in Azerbaijan and the ongoing court proceedings, once again pointing out that after his military service in 2004-2006, K. Ghazaryan has never served in the Armenian Armed Forces.
Davit Tonoyan said that the Armenian side is intensively working on the issue to return Ghazaryan to Armenia, collaborating with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
At the same time, Davit Tonoyan expressed hope that the Azerbaijani authorities would not see Karen Ghazaryan’s return to Armenia, which is an issue of humanitarian nature, in the context of the exchange of prisoners of war between the conflicting sides.
