Zatulin: We love Armenia regardless of the authorities
The “Lazarev club" first plenary session has kicked off in Yerevan. Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the RF State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, First Deputy Chairman of the Eurasian Integration and Compatriots Committee, said in his opening remarks: "Today Armenia is experiencing very important internal processes and we hope that the exchange of opinions and live communication between our societies in all spheres, in economy, in politics and in cultural life will not cease. We know that snap parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia and we understand that this club's session takes place in a very important political period for Armenia. But I want to emphasize that we wanted to refrain today from discussing the visions on the political developments in Armenia or, for example, in Russia."
Zatulin said that there have been many suggestions to postpone the session. "They said that in no case should any event be held in Armenia now, it is a very responsible period there now. First and foremost, I want to say we love Armenia, no matter which governments, presidents, and powers it is ruled by," he said.
Zatulin noted that during the session the peaceful life of the two peoples in the conditions of peaceful borders and security will be discussed. He also added that he respected the circumstances that did not allow the current and former Armenian leaders to attend the club's activities, although they had invited everyone.
