Armenia tightens food safety control ahead of New Year
Armenia’s State Service for Food Safety will conduct closer oversight in food markets to ensure food safety ahead of the New Year given the expected increase in trade volumes during holidays.
The task forces set up by the service will carry out inspections in grocery stores and meat markets in all the regions of Armenia and in the capital, Yerevan from 4 to 27 December, checking for compliance with food safety regulations, the service told Panorama.am.
The food safety service will also tighten border control. The Yerevan border checkpoint, as well as the laboratories of the Republican Veterinary, Sanitary and PhytoSanitary Center for Laboratory Services SNCO will also work during weekends to facilitate imports and exports processes.
If any violations are revealed, the business entities will be tasked to eliminate all the shortcomings, while the dangerous food will be withdrawn from circulation and destroyed.
The inspectors will also check if food chain operators are named in the respective registry.
