Ombudsman forwards election campaign incidents with elements of crime to law enforcement agencies
The Human Rights Defender’s (Ombudsman) Office says it has been carrying out an independent observation of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections starting from the launch of the election campaigning.
The Ombudsman’s Office has documented all the incidents related to the electoral process that contain elements constituting a crime under the Criminal Code and has submitted them to the law enforcement agencies, it said in a statement on Wednesday.
In particular, the forwarded materials include threats against the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) candidate Vahan Babayan and the obstruction of campaigning of the Citizens’ Decision party in the town of Aparan.
As reported earlier, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan has set up a task force to conduct an independent observation of the December 9 elections.
The group is responsible for monitoring alleged violations of electoral rights reported by media outlets, as well as for ensuring proper examination of oral and written complaints during the campaigning and on the election day.
The group is also responsible for receiving citizens, providing legal assistance to them and carrying out rapid reaction visits.
