Armenia to assume EAEU presidency in 2019
Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who is in the Russian Federation on a working visit, participated in the session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Saint Petersburg. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin participated in the session. Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Tigran Sargsyan, was present at the meeting.
The EAEU Supreme Economic Council meeting was first held in a narrow, then expanded format, the government’s press office reported.
The Council members summed up the EAEU annual activities carried out during the presidency of the Russian Federation, highlighting the key spheres of further expansion of the Eurasian integration, such as trade, energy, and digital agenda. In particular, the officials discussed the activities implemented towards the elimination of barriers and restrictions, creation of a common market for goods and services, provision of conditions for free movement of capital and labor, approximation of financial and monetary policy of EAEU member-states and the creation of a common financial market in the future, as well as the implementation of the digital agenda of the Union and the creation of oil market.
The leaders of the EAEU member states also reviewed the current and organizational issues of the organization.
It’s been decided that Armenia will assume the EAEU presidency in 2019.
