Analyst hopes Armenia will have new political picture in five years
The My Step bloc led by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will obviously win the absolute majority of votes during the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, but the political force will not gain the same results as it did at the Yerevan City Council elections, political analyst Armen Baghdasaryan said at today’s discussions summing up the election campaign in Armenia.
“There is a high percentage of undetermined voters who need to make up their mind in the next two days. It may significantly affect the forces that need to overcome the threshold,” the analyst said, adding the campaign was sometimes tense and tough, featuring even treason accusations and verbal fight.
He expressed hope the tensions will ease after the elections, adding the campaigning was a good opportunity especially for the newly-formed political forces to present themselves to the public.
Political analyst Hakob Badalyan said, for his part, the election campaign was held as expected, dominated by post-revolutionary sentiments that determined its tough course.
“In general, the campaign came to show that Armenia has a problem of forming a political field from scratch. Obviously, the existing color palette doesn’t match with the new situation or the new challenges at all,” he said. “I think, we should hold the last elections with this palette, and it’s very desirable to have a completely different political picture in five years. The failure to do so will signal to some sort of inefficiency.”
Eleven political forces, including two blocs and nine parties. are running in the parliamentary elections set for Sunday, 9 December. Today the election campaign comes to an end, with Saturday to be declared a ‘day of silence’ in which no campaigning will be allowed.
