Police issue list of penalties for election offenses
In September, the National Assembly adopted amendments to the Criminal Code which envisage tougher sanctions against election offenses.
According to the police report, the following penalties have been determined:
- To receive or demand election bribe - a fine of 500,000 to 700,000 AMD or 1 to 3 years imprisonment.
- For giving or offering election bribe – a fine of 2.500.000 to 3.000.000 AMD or 2 to 6 years of imprisonment.
- To vote more than once or instead of another person - 2 to 6 years of imprisonment.
- Falsifying election results in any way (including falsification of votes of the candidates) - 3 to 8 years of imprisonment.
The police have the right to use all legitimate means of intelligence (eg wiretapping, internal watch) to detect those crimes.
