Armenia elections: Pashinyan’s My Step bloc wins landslide victory
The My Step bloc led by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has won the absolute majority of votes in Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections.
The preliminary results from the polling stations released by the Central Electoral Commission on Monday morning suggest the bloc has garnered 70,43% or 884,456 votes.
Prosperous Armenia Party led by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan has scored 8.27% of the vote (with 103,824 votes) and Bright Armenia party – 6.37% of the vote (80,024 votes).
The other eight political forces running for parliament failed to overcome the set threshold.
The former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) received 4.70% or 50,059 votes, Citizen's Decision Social Democratic Party – 0,68% (8,530 votes), ARF – 3,89% (48,811 votes), Christian Democratic Revival Party – 0.51% (6,456 votes), National Progress Party – 0.33% (4,122 votes), We bloc – 2% (25,174 votes), Rule of Law party – 0.99% (12,389 votes) and Sasna Tsrer party secured 1.82% or 22,862 votes.
Each party needed at least 5% of the vote, while a bloc was required to have at least 7% turnout to enter the 101-seat National Assembly, according to Armenia’s Electoral Code.
1,260,840 people, or 48.63% of eligible voters, cast ballots in the parliamentary elections.
