Chancellor Merkel congratulates Armenia's Pashinyan on election win
German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated Armenia's Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his victory in Sunday’s snap parliamentary elections.
In a congratulatory message, the chancellor says Germany has followed the peaceful change of government in Armenia this year with great interest.
“We would also like to continue supporting Armenia on its reform path and reaffirm the commitment to deepening bilateral relations reached during my visit to Yerevan,” she said. “In this context I would be delighted to meet with You in the near future.”
Armenia’s early parliamentary elections saw Pashinyan’s My Step bloc win a landslide victory with over 70 percent of the vote. The Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia have also made it to the parliament with 8.27% and 6.37% of the vote, respectively.
