‘Investment promotion, poverty reduction’: Pashinyan outlines government’s upcoming actions
Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the December 9 snap parliamentary elections at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, the first one held after the voting.
“I am happy to document that our government has received a convincing vote of confidence from the citizens at the early parliamentary elections which means that we still have a lot of work to do in near future,” Pashinyan said.
The Armenian leader outlined the upcoming key priorities of his government, with the investment promotion and facilitation being the first priority action in the contest of the economic revolution.
“We should record that there is a great interest toward making investments in Armenia which will continue growing in the future. I want to draw the attention of all the state officials to the issue and task them to create all favourable conditions and not to create any obstacles for potential investors. I hope I will not receive any signal that investment projects are facing impediments,” Pashinyan said.
He also stressed the need to facilitate investment procedures as much as possible to avoid any artificial obstacles.
Pashinyan also named the education and healthcare reforms among the upcoming actions of his government. He highlighted the future efforts to take the higher education to a new level to meet the economic needs.
“We have talked about the need to unite the higher education system. I think that there is a huge imbalance between the formal university system and the departments. We must have a unified university system,” he said.
“We need to implement strong reforms in the health sector aimed at ensuring an access of health services for the broad circles of the society,” the acting PM said.
“We also attach an importance to the issue of upgrading the public administration system and raising its effectiveness. As a final goal of it, we should have significant changes in the citizens’ social condition and welfare. One of the key provisions of our program is to eliminate extreme poverty in Armenia and significantly reduce poverty rate,” he said.
