Armenia’s ex-deputy PM denies wrongdoing amid criminal charges
Armenia’s former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan denies the criminal charges brought against him by the Special Investigative Service (SIS).
The Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court is opening on Thursday hearings on Gevorgian’s pre-trial arrest mediated by the SIS.
“Understandably, I don’t accept the charges. All the other clarifications will be presented by my lawyers after the court hearing,” Gevorgyan told reporters today, urging them to refrain from making assumptions.
The ex-official thanked the reporters and entered the court building.
Gevorgyan, a former secretary of the Security Council, has been charged with assisting in an ‘overthrow of the constitutional order’ as part of the March 1 criminal probe, corruption and money laundering.
He was already charged in August with obstructing justice during the March 1-2, 2008 events that followed the presidential elections.
