MFA: Russia committed to constructive dialogue with new Armenian parliament
Russia is committed to a constructive dialogue with the new Armenian parliament formed after the December 9 snap elections and the future government, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday.
“Our friendly country held early parliamentary elections on 9 December. They have also been observed by Russian experts as part of both the OSCE/ODIHR and CIS observation missions. According to the observers, the elections were conducted in accordance with the law without any serious violations or breaches that could affect the voting outcomes,” she said.
“We are committed to a constructive dialogue with Armenia’s new parliament and government to be formed soon in order to further strengthen the cooperation between our countries, including within the framework of the EAEU, CSTO and CIS,” Zakharova stressed.
Sunday’s elections saw Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s My Step bloc win a landslide victory with over 70% of the vote. The Prosperous Armenia Party and Bright Armenia have also been elected to the parliament with over 8% and 6% of the vote, respectively.
The Central Electoral Commission will announce the official results on December 16.
